Session: Aging, Substance Use and Cognitive Health
Presenters: Triveni DeFries, MD, MPH & Christy Soran, MD, MPH
Description: Substance use disorders (SUD) are a significant public health concern for the growing population of older adults. Complications that occur with increasing frequency with age, such as medical comorbidity, cognitive impairment, and frailty, contribute to the potential adverse interactions between substance misuse and an aging brain. During this webinar, we will discuss how aging and cognitive impairment intersect with substance use. We will describe practical strategies for how to adapt screening assessment and treatment for older patients with substance use disorder with the aim of empowering providers to better care for older adults with SUD.
