While Chemsex is not a new phenomenon, the recent uptick in contaminated drug supply, COVID-19 retention in care challenges, and the promotion of geosocial networking apps have created new challenges for HIV care providers.

Description: Health care providers play a critical role in responding to HIV outbreaks in people who use drugs. During this
webinar, we will describe the NCCC’s approach to supporting clinicians with the implementation and optimization of
HIV prevention and treatment strategies for persons who use drugs including PrEP, substance use disorder (SUD)
treatment, and other harm reduction practices. Based on real cases, we will discuss key interventions for
responding to the overlapping HIV and SUD syndemic, and share ideas on overcoming clinical, informational,
and cultural challenges in building capacity to respond to this syndemic.
