Arizona AETC is the only organization in the state that provides clinical training on HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP). Because of this, Arizona AETC PrEP trainings are in high demand. Since July 2016, AETC has conducted 12 PrEP trainings for over 334 health professionals. The PrEP trainings were conducted in a variety of settings including community health centers, private primary care offices, university campus health clinics, health departments, Planned Parenthood, and large regional clinical update trainings.
Arizona AETC recognized the need for providers to not only have clinical information on PrEP patient management, but also need to be aware of local resources that can assist patients in PrEP navigation and benefits coordination. To address this need, Arizona AETC has served a vital role in connecting providers to local HIV specialty pharmacies that can help with benefits coordination and community-based organizations that offer PrEP navigation services. Arizona AETC facilitates discussions between organizations and clinics to create the best possible care systems for patients accessing PrEP. Arizona AETC is also working to diversify the types of providers that prescribe PrEP including private providers, STD clinic providers and community health center providers in order to make PrEP more widely available to patients. Critical to the expansion of PrEP providers is the availability of clinical consultation support. Arizona AETC Infectious Disease Faculty provides clinical consultations to providers in the community who are prescribing PrEP. The clinical consultation services give community providers the confidence and support they need to provide high quality PrEP patient care.
